MELAB (Mixed Experience LABorotories) is founded in 2022.

X-Reality, or “Cross-Reality”, combines the real world with the virtual world in a deep and interconnected way, giving rise to what will be the human-machine interfaces of the future, or so-called “human augmentation”, disrupting the current conception of products and services in all areas of human activity.

It is reasonable to assume that many activities will be performed in the metaverse, which can then be seen as an extension of the workstation, with the possibility of advanced data visualization and interaction with people and objects not physically present in the workplace.

Evolutionary approach is not always applicable, and industry and academia face multiple challenges, particularly the exploration of new paradigms and modes of interaction, where objective aspects such as functionality and performance must dialogue with subjective factors such as human capabilities, hedonic, sensual and emotional factors.

This multidisciplinary lab contaminates basic skills in design and engineering with experts from the computer, humanities and social sciences. The main goal is to explore new forms and creative experiences “outside the box” and applications with a positive impact on human life and the environment such as: medical, sports, psychophysical well-being, and environmental and social sustainability.

The skills and equipment of the laboratory enable:

– rapid prototyping of the experience,
– holistic investigation of the technological experience,
– user-centered design,
– UX and quality of experience (QoE) studies
