WEXR: The 1st International Workshop on Working Enhancement with Extended Reality
shaping the workspaces of tomorrow

Session:
Workshop

Schedule:
Wednesday 8th, 14:00 – 17:30 (UTC+9)

Abstract:
Despite the increasing maturity of Extended Reality (XR) technologies and a growing body of evidence demonstrating their benefits in training, collaboration, and productivity, the widespread adoption of XR in real-world work settings remains limited. This disconnection suggests persistent barriers (technological, organizational, and human-centered) that we aim to identify and address in the workshop:

  • Bridging Perception and Reality
  • Enhancing Worker Well-Being
  • Preparing for the Metaverse Era
  • Addressing Social and Ethical Implications

Can AI Inspire Biophilic Design in Immersive Virtual Reality Workspaces to Enhance Well-being?

Session:
51 – Well-being  [Main conference]

Schedule:
Saturday 11th, 12:00 – 13:00 (UTC+9)

Abstract:
This study explores the impact of biophilic design in Immersive Virtual Reality (IVR) workspaces on human well-being and the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in optimizing such designs. As IVR adoption increases, understanding how to design virtual workspaces to enhance well-being is essential. Biophilic design, which incorporates natural elements, has been shown to improve well-being in real-world environments but is rarely explored in IVR. AI, becoming more integrated into daily life, may assist in designing these virtual spaces. The study compared psycho-physiological and subjective metrics across three conditions: a baseline workspace without biophilia, and two biophilic designs—one by expert designers and one AI-generated. Results indicated that both biophilic designs improved well-being, though AI-generated designs led to a reduced sense of presence in the IVR environment.
